16 June 2020

In July 2020, Foodland supermarkets will welcome Franklin dos Santos as the new Chief Executive Officer. Having been hand-picked for this role, the Foodland Board and Corporate Office are confident he has the right capabilities and experience needed to lead Foodland into the future.

“Franklin comes with a wealth of senior leadership experience,” Foodland Board Chairperson Spero Tsapaliaris said. “Having held roles within retail, wholesale and with global suppliers, the addition of Franklin to the Foodland team will complement the strong leadership group already in place.”

The current Managing Director and former CEO of Foodland Supermarkets Con Sciacca has lead the brand for the past five years.

“I have been so grateful for the incredible experiences I have had at Foodland,” Mr Sciacca said. “It has been a time of great development for me personally and for our business.”

Sciacca has always believed in the importance of balancing his personal and professional life, and is keen to take a sabbatical from his business life to pursue his long-term life goals. After relinquishing his current position as Managing Director, he will remain on the Foodland Board in a non-executive position.

“I take comfort in knowing our business is stronger, healthier and happier than before—that is a legacy I am extremely proud of… We have weathered the introduction of a new competitor in our market better than any other independent in Australia, and not only did we meet the challenge, we continued to grow during this time,” Sciacca said.

Foodland’s new CEO Mr dos Santos is excited and optimistic about the future of Foodland.

“I’m delighted to be joining the Foodland Corporate Office at such a dynamic and exciting time for our industry, Foodland is such an Iconic South Australian business that understands the benefits of supporting local and the social responsibility it has to its community”, dos Santos said.

“As the world moves forward from COVID-19, the future of the supermarket industry in South Australia is bright,” he said. “I look forward to leading the Foodland business by working with our many suppliers and partners to ensure Foodland continues to grow and service the community into the future”.

Franklin Dos Santos will lead the Foodland network from July 2020.
