Explore the night sky

It’s true—not all night skies look the same. If you’re from the city especially or just a general lover of all things outdoors, we recommend paying a visit to the River Murray Dark Sky Reserve. This place is accredited by the International Dark-Sky Association, the first of its kind in Australia and only the 16th in the world!

A couple things to note—entry is free, take plenty of water and snacks with you (there are no faclities present in the area), and you will need a 4WD to get here! The view, however, is completely worth it!

Be close to nature

If you’re an outdoor-sy type, the Murray River, Lakes & Coorong region is definitely the holiday destination for you!

Visit several national and conservation parks, such as Coorong National Park, which is great for four-wheel drivers, birdwatchers, hikers and boaties (and camping is great here!). It’s also an important area for Aboriginal communities.

Another must-do is kayaking through Hermann Gass Bird Sanctuary, which is located in Mannum. Hire a kayak and travel just a few minutes to the famous sanctuary. Then, simply hit the waters and you’ll discover gorgeous scenic views and beautiful river red gums. You’ll also be able to spot a large variety of native birdlife. Doesn’t that sound great?!

If you like freshwater fishing, a trip to the Murray River is an absolute must. Abundant with fish, such as golden perches (and yabbies!), we recommend visiting during October and April for the best experience.

Get your heart racing

If you’re never visited Monarto Zoo before, here is your sign to do so! Set-off on an African-style safari and watch lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and the like roam all from a shuttle bus! If you want a thrilling experience, we recommend Australia’s only 360 lion encounter—where you’ll be up close to one of the world’s biggest predators!
