Frikadeller (Danish Meatballs)

Ingredients Checklist

  • 750g beef mince
  • 250g pork mince
  • 3 slices white bread, cut into small pieces
  • milk
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp sea salt flakes
  • ½ tsp ground white pepper
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • 80g butter, melted
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Combine mince beef and pork in a large bowl.
  • Place bread into a small bowl and add enough milk just to cover the bread, allow bread to soak up the milk and become soft.
  • Add onion and soaked bread to the mince, mix with clean hands to bring together. Then add eggs, flour, salt, pepper and ground cloves, combine well.
  • Using a tablespoon, dip spoon into melted butter and take one spoonful of mixture.
  • Place the meat in the palm of your hand and form the mixture into an oval shape, continue till all mixture has been shaped.
  • Heat oil in a large frying pan; carefully cook meatballs till browned, turning to ensure all sides are browned. Remove and drain on absorbent paper.
  • Serve with gravy, mashed potatoes and a berry sauce.
